The Rules
This is the beginning and the end of the system. It is written in big letters on the wall of the Wu Shu Guan in Yong Chun. If you want to practice something harder than San Jan start here……….持四善 (chi si shan)
To hold – Four – Righteousnesses
n 善修其身(shan xiu qi shen) perfectly – mend/ repair – one’s – body Þ To repair one’s body till perfection
n 善正其心 (shan zheng qi xin) perfectly – locate centrally– one’s – heart
Þ To rectify one’s heart or intention till perfection
n 善慎其行 (shan shen qi xing) perfectly/ well – be cautious – one’s – behaviour Þ To be well cautious of one’s behaviour
n 善守其德 (shan shou qi de) perfectly/ well – observe/ defend – one’s – virtues Þ To defend one’s virtues well.
懍十戒 (lin shi jie) be awed by – ten – commandments/ abstentions Þ Ten abstentions to be respectfully observed
n 戒好鬥 (jie hao dou)、 to abstain from- being fond of – to fight Þ To abstain from being combative and agonistic
n 戒好勝 (jie hao sheng)、 to abstain from – being fond of – to win Þ To abstain from the desire of winning the others
n 戒好名 (jie hao ming)、 to abstain from – being fond of – name Þ To abstain from wanting to be famous
n 戒好利 (jie hao li)、 to abstain from – being fond of – advantages/ profits Þ To abstain from the desire of benefits and advantages
n 戒浮誇 (jie fu kua)、 to abstain from – to drift – to boast Þ To abstain from being boastful and vainglorious
n 戒驕 (jie jiao)、 to abstain from – snobbish/ arrogant Þ To abstain from being arrogant
n 戒詐(jie za)、 to abstain from – to compose / to pretend Þ To abstain from being pretentious
n 戒弄虛作假 (jie nong xu zuo jia)、 to abstain from – to make - abstracts/ emptiness – to compose - fakes Þ To abstain from playing dishonest tricks and resorting to deceit
n 戒挑撥離間 (jie tiao bo li jian)、 to abstain from – to arouse – to sir – to separate – to divide Þ To abstain from sowing discords and alienating one person from another
n 戒為非作歹 (jie wei fei zuo dai)。 to abstain from – to do – wrong – to compose – evil/ bad Þ To abstain from committing crimes and evil deeds
